Gentle, Comfortable Sedation Dentistry
Dental fear and phobia can make it a cumbersome ordeal just to attend an appointment, and when patients need restorative treatment to address a problem, the fear can make the condition worse as time goes by. With extensive experience in providing gentle sedation dentistry, Dr. George and our team can help fearful patients remain calm and comfortable while at the office, improving their chances of maintaining a healthy, vibrant, and beautiful smile.
Dental Sedation Methods
Nitrous oxide is a sedative gas that is delivered through a mask worn over the nose. The gas is immediately exhaled through the mouth, so the sedative’s effects wear off almost immediately after the mask is removed. Though often called laughing gas, nitrous oxide actually produces a calm, relaxed, and slightly euphoric feeling to ease your fears and anxiety.
Oral sedation is a medication you can take as either a pill or liquid shortly before your treatment begins. The medication is stronger than nitrous oxide, and you should arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home afterward. For some patients, Dr. George might recommend a combination of nitrous oxide and oral sedation, depending on your unique needs and preferences.
